Powerball Jackpot Climbs to Estimated $232 Million After No Winning Tickets in Sept. 9 Drawing

The multi-state Powerball jackpot has rolled over once again after no ticket matched all six winning numbers drawn on Wednesday night, Sept. 9. Lottery officials confirmed that the top prize had reached an estimated $207 million ahead of the midweek drawing, carrying a corresponding lump-sum cash option of $89.4 million for any participant able to match the entire winning combination.

During the live Wednesday evening drawing, the five white ball numbers selected were 9, 40, 42, 55, and 65. The red Powerball drawn was 23, while the Power Play multiplier for the session was set at 2X, allowing ticket holders with non-jackpot winning combinations to multiply their baseline earnings.

Following the nationwide verification of entries, game administrators announced that no player matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to secure the $207 million jackpot. In addition, the drawing produced no second-tier winners, meaning no tickets matched all five white balls to claim the standard $1 million prize, nor did any player capture the $2 million prize offered through the Match 5 plus Power Play option.

Because the grand prize went unclaimed, the jackpot continues to build ahead of the next scheduled drawing on Saturday, Sept. 12. Lottery officials estimate that the upcoming jackpot will reach $232 million, providing an estimated cash value of $100.0 million for a single winner who chooses an immediate lump-sum payout rather than an annuity.

The Wednesday drawing also included results for the companion Powerball Double Play drawing, an optional feature available in select states. The winning Double Play numbers for Sept. 9 were 32, 33, 58, 62, and 69, with a red Powerball number of 18. This secondary drawing allows players to enter their selected numbers into a separate drawing for a chance to win a top prize of $10 million.

Powerball drawings follow a standard weekly schedule, taking place three times per week every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Drawings are broadcast and monitored nationally as ticket sales accumulate across participating state and regional lotteries before each event.

To play the standard game, participants must choose a total of six numbers. A standard entry requires selecting five numbers from a pool of 1 to 69 for the white balls, followed by one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball. Players may pick their own numbers manually using a printed play slip or request a terminal-generated quick pick for randomly selected digits.

A single Powerball ticket costs $2 per play. Participants have the option to add the Power Play feature for an additional $1, which applies a random multiplier to all non-jackpot prize tiers. In participating jurisdictions such as Kentucky, Indiana, and several other states, players can also add the Double Play feature for an extra $1 to compete for the secondary $10 million top prize.

The mathematical probability of winning the grand jackpot remains steep, with overall odds set at 1 in 292.2 million. These high odds are designed to allow prize money to roll over across multiple drawings when no winning ticket is sold, steadily driving up the advertised jackpot amounts.

Beyond the top prize, Powerball features several lower-tier payout levels with varying odds. The odds of matching all five white balls to win the $1 million second prize are 1 in 11.7 million. Matching four white balls along with the Powerball delivers a $50,000 prize at odds of approximately 1 in 913,000, while matching four white balls alone awards $100 at odds of about 1 in 36,000.

Smaller fixed prizes round out the game's payout structure. Matching three white balls plus the Powerball awards $100 at odds of roughly 1 in 14,500. Matching three white balls alone or matching two white balls plus the Powerball each yield a $7 prize, with odds of approximately 1 in 580 and 1 in 700, respectively. Matching one white ball plus the Powerball pays $4 at odds of 1 in 92, and matching only the Powerball awards $4 at odds of 1 in 38.

Powerball is currently offered across 45 U.S. states—including Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana—as well as in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Game rules do not require participants to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to play and claim prizes legally.

Retail tickets can be purchased at authorized gas stations, convenience stores, and supermarkets across participating territories. Sales cut-off windows vary by state lottery jurisdiction, with retail ticket sales generally closing one to two hours prior to the 11 p.m. ET drawing.

Digital ticket purchasing options are also available in select markets. Players in Kentucky can buy tickets directly online through the official Kentucky Lottery website, while residents in Ohio and Indiana can order tickets digitally via Jackpocket, the official digital lottery courier partner of the USA TODAY Network. Direct official online lottery sales are also available to residents in Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
