In an extraordinary show of community solidarity, a coalition of Orlando-area event-planning vendors has united to donate a comprehensive, luxury fundraising gala valued at $100,000 to a local charity dedicated to assisting grieving children. The collaborative effort completely relieves the nonprofit organization of venue, catering, and operational production expenses, ensuring that every dollar contributed by attendees goes directly toward frontline grief counseling and family assistance.

Known as the Goodness Gala, the philanthropic initiative was created to provide one deserving charitable group each year with a fully staged, cost-free fundraising experience. Nonprofit organizations typically encounter substantial financial burdens and dedicate months of planning when organizing large benefit galas, often seeing a considerable portion of their ticket proceeds consumed by necessary event overhead. By absorbing all upfront costs, the donor alliance maximizes the charity's net financial return.

This year’s selected recipient is New Hope for Kids, a Maitland-based nonprofit organization that offers grief-support services and specialized guidance to children coping with the loss of parents, siblings, or other loved ones. The charity provides professional counseling and developmental resources designed to help grieving families navigate emotional trauma and rebuild their lives in the wake of profound personal loss.

For the past three decades, the Maitland group has served families dealing with tragic losses stemming from fatal accidents, serious diseases, suicides, and violent crimes. In addition to delivering structured grief support to children, New Hope for Kids assists surviving parents and caregivers, offering vital coping strategies to help entire households adjust, survive, and ultimately thrive in their new and unwelcome reality.

Despite thirty years of community service, New Hope for Kids leadership noted that many area families in need of assistance remain unaware of the organization's programs. Brian Clark, the chief executive officer of New Hope for Kids, explained that being selected for the gala represents a vital opportunity to elevate public awareness, share their mission with new audiences, and deliver comfort and optimism to families experiencing profound sorrow.

The Goodness Gala was conceived by Sean Hughes, the chief executive officer of the event agency aVenue Event Group, which also owns and operates The Balcony, a premier rooftop banquet room and outdoor patio facility located in downtown Orlando.

Hughes explained that while event industry professionals deeply appreciate the work of local charities, they also witness the extensive financial strain and grueling, year-long planning required to produce large-scale fundraisers. Recognizing that minor vendor discounts often provide limited relief to non-profit budgets, Hughes sought to assemble a dedicated coalition of local businesses willing to supply an entirely donated, full-scale event.

The resulting $100,000 gift package provides a comprehensive, turnkey event setup at The Balcony overlooking the Orlando skyline. The coalition's donation covers every element of the gala, including appetizers, a full dinner, an open bar, professional DJ entertainment, photography services, customized printed event programs, high-end sound and lighting equipment, tables, and tailored floral centerpieces.

Local service providers eagerly joined the effort, including TableTop Catering. Owner James Marino noted that discovering New Hope's specific mission provided an eye-opening perspective on the realities of childhood loss. While acknowledging that company philanthropy is a core corporate goal, Marino emphasized how powerful it was to support an organization that assists local children facing the sudden absence of their parents.

To ensure an objective and thorough selection process, Hughes partnered with the Central Florida Foundation, a regional organization that provides strategic guidance to charitable foundations and local philanthropists. Competition for the annual donation was fierce, with 36 Central Florida nonprofit organizations submitting applications for this year’s package.

The gala initiative launched its first annual event last year, when approximately two dozen nonprofits applied for the package. The inaugural gala benefited NextStep Orlando, a specialized charitable organization that provides rehabilitation, recovery resources, and hope to individuals living with paralysis.

The coalition responsible for bringing the Goodness Gala to life encompasses numerous Central Florida specialty vendors. Alongside aVenue Event Group and TableTop Catering, the contributing partners include Orlando Marquee & Decor, Go To Event Rentals, iRock Your Party, Bellamore Studio, Faux Real Flowers, On Top Printing, and Printed for Light.

Hughes observed that reviewing the applications is an intensely emotional experience for the donor group, noting that tissues are routinely needed during evaluation sessions due to the moving missions of the applicants. However, New Hope’s focus on helping children process catastrophic grief resonated deeply with the participating business owners.

The necessity of New Hope's services is underscored by the peer-support circles the group provides, where children find mutual understanding among other youth who have experienced similar tragedies. Gloria Capozzi, the organization's director of community outreach, described the transformative dynamic within these groups as a magical process where darkness is gradually lifted and replaced with light.

Because every component of the gala has been fully underwritten, every dollar raised from the evening's supporters will go straight toward New Hope's counseling and family programs. Looking ahead, the vendor network plans to continue its mission, reopening the application window on October 1 for the 2027 Goodness Gala in an ongoing effort to create a substantial charitable impact across the community.
